Community Service Committee Update – January 2018
Happy New Year! 2017 was an incredible year of giving and volunteering for NAIOP. Thank you to everyone who made our events and drives a huge success to help the less fortunate. We look forward to 2018 giving.

Ronald McDonald House
NAIOP members assist once a year to drive to different Smiths grocery stores in the valley collecting food. After all of the pick-ups, the committee helps to stock their pantry.
Street Teens
A food & supplies drive is held at NAIOP breakfast meeting every year. These directly help the teens living on the streets in Southern Nevada.
Kiwanis International – Plastic Bag Drive
In partnership with the Sustainability Committee in 2017, a drive for used grocery bags was held for Kiwanis International. They turned the bags into ‘plarn’ (plastic yarn) and transformed into crocheted sleeping mats then donated to homeless teens.
‘Knot Tied Down’ Clothing Drive for Communities in Schools
Over a few months at the breakfast meetings, the membership collects gently used business attire and ties for Communities In Schools. The donations provide underprivileged high school students with business attire for job interviews and work.
Candlelighters 5K
Once a year, Team NAIOP joins in a 5K run to help battle children’s cancer. The group dresses up as superheroes to show their support to battle this disease.
Helping Hands of Vegas Valley
Annually, the NAIOP membership steps up big donating nonperishable food and supplies to Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. Donations benefit elderly seniors who are on a fixed income who often choose between buying food and paying bills or for medication.
Dragon Boat Race
NAIOP participated in the Dragon Boat Festival coming in 2nd in their heat! Proceeds raised benefited The Breast Cancer Center at Summerlin Hospital, Children’s Cancer Center of Summerlin, Pueblo Medical Imaging and the Blind Center of Nevada.
Howard Hollingsworth Elementary School Supply Drive
Every fall before school, the membership donates school supplies to the elementary school for the upcoming year. A few NAIOP members spoke to the school on their Career Day teaching what we do for a living.
Vegas Youth Ambassadors
The committee and members assisted Vegas Youth Ambassadors along with Communities in Schools with their annual Thanksgiving Angel Basket Drive. They collected, donated and sorted food, decorated box baskets and delivered the donations to 30 families. Families received several meals including a complete turkey and Thanksgiving meal. This is such a great service opportunity for the committee & families. The kids love the basket decorating!
Holiday Toy Drive – CASA Foundation of Las Vegas
Every December, the Community Service Committee holds a toy drive at the Annual Holiday Lunch. In 2017, toys were collected for the CASA Foundation of Las Vegas who help foster children in Nevada. The committee helped to collect, deliver, sort & wrap the toys. Each year, CASA puts on an amazing winter wonderland holiday party for the kids and we were happy to be involved. We look forward to volunteering at this event next year.
