On November 13th, the second DLI Class of 2018 convened at the Cushman & Wakefield office where principal board member Jeff LaPour held an engaging discussion on Site Selection and Development. LaPour has successfully navigated complicated development projects in CO, AZ, CA, and of course Las Vegas, NV for the past 20 years. LaPour examined some of the basics of development, risks and hurdles, spec vs. build-to-suit, and the skills required to be in the development business. Students studied five practical application, real life developments that the LaPour team had produced, including obstacles that impeded progress, resolutions to issues and variances between each project. The Class Sponsor, G.C. Garcia Planning & Development Services, a local zoning and entitlements firm that has helped the private sector navigate the public process for zoning, entitlements and permitting for development and redevelopment projects. Afterwards a mixer was held at Panevino and the class networked with Mr. LaPour and several Board members.
