Mock Trial Summary

The Education Committee hosted its first ever “Mock Trial” at the Regional Justice Center in early November. Sponsored by Prologis, it was a smashing success! After refreshments and an open bar in the courthouse lobby, members migrated to the 11th floor to sit in an actual courtroom to watch as the Honorable Judge Scotty presided over the trial.  NAIOP members played the roles of attorneys, witnesses, jury, the plaintiff and the defendant. The trial was based on a fictional case study involving a commercial real estate (office building) development gone wrong; the same case study referenced during education workshops held for Members Only throughout 2016. The witnesses, plaintiff, and defendant dressed in full costume delivering Oscar-worthy performances, creating an environment that was just as entertaining as it was educational. The added benefit of having a former construction law attorney with a sense of humor as our judge was just icing on the cake. It was a fantastic experience for all and the Education Committee was thrilled to deliver such a successful and informative program for the membership.
