President’s Message – July 2023

Dear NAIOP Members,

I hope this newsletter finds you thriving in your professional pursuits. As we enter the third quarter of 2023, I am delighted to touch upon two significant topics that have been shaping our organization and industry: our recent NAIOP Board Retreat and the exceptional impact of our Developing Leaders Institute (DLI) program.

Board Retreat: Strengthening Collaboration and Teamwork

Our recent NAIOP Board Retreat was an extraordinary gathering of dedicated individuals, focused on enhancing collaboration and teamwork within our organization. During this transformative event, board members dedicated valuable time to understanding each other’s strengths, communication styles, and working preferences. By fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, we aim to maximize our collective potential and effectiveness in serving our valued membership.

DLI: Empowering Future Leaders and Board Engagement

Now, let us turn our attention to the remarkable impact of our Developing Leaders Institute (DLI) program, which has been empowering emerging professionals within our organization since 2007. DLI stands as a defining program for countless professionals, including myself, who have benefited from its comprehensive curriculum, industry insights, and personal development opportunities.

DLI has not only shaped careers but has also played a pivotal role in fostering an active and engaged board within NAIOP Southern Nevada. Many DLI graduates have gone on to serve on our board, executive board, and even as president. This active involvement of DLI alumni has significantly enriched our board, bringing unique perspectives, skills, and passion to our organization.

The DLI program nurtures leadership talent through various components:

  1. Three-Day Leadership Retreat: DLI participants kick off their journey with a transformative three-day leadership retreat, where they acquire techniques to enhance organization, productivity, and leadership skills. This immersive experience sets the foundation for personal growth and sets the tone for the entire program.
  2. Monthly Educational Sessions: DLI participants continue their growth through monthly educational sessions facilitated by industry leaders from the Southern Nevada real estate and development community. These sessions provide invaluable insights into successful professionals’ journeys and equip emerging leaders with the tools they need to excel in their careers.
  3. Class Project: A Hands-On Experience: The DLI program offers a standout feature – the “Class Project.” Participants engage in a comprehensive project, from site selection to project disposition, providing hands-on experience in project management, collaboration, and problem-solving.

The success stories of DLI graduates are a testament to the program’s profound impact. We celebrate their achievements and the milestones they have reached throughout their careers.

As we conclude, I want to express our commitment to the continued growth and enhancement of the DLI program. We will strive to ensure it remains a cornerstone of leadership development within NAIOP Southern Nevada.
